There is something about being a triathlete that is absolutely thrilling to me. It is not only the rush of pushing myself to the limit of my current capabilities. It is how much fun I can have while competing in such a race. And every race is going to be different, no matter what the distance, location, or water temperature. That is why I am so surprised to not have done a single triathlon in almost two years.
On my 24th birthday, I will be back at it. Competing against myself and others in a triathlon again. With Beth working towards the finish line just the same, the best we can. The race is the Boulder Sunrise Triathlon on June 7, 2014...in 11 weeks. The water will be cold. The adrenaline will be high. The times will be... probably not as fast as they once were, but who is really going to care. I will be a triathlete again.
My training for this return race will be EPIC. Not really. What would make it all epic would be if I somehow won the whole race... and that won't happen. So the training will be rejuvenating, exciting, and CRAZY. Which is still awesome. It will also be very time cramped to train for this event, at least for the next 5 weeks or so while I am still working two jobs for a total of 60 hrs/5 days(crazy part). Which will make it even more awesome, but also exhausting and leave me little time to do much else. But, such is life...
My main plan for training will be to swim, bike and strength train two times per week mixed in with 4-5 runs. The only time I will have to train will be in about 30 minute to an hour long burst each day except for the weekends. On the weekends, I will hopefully be able to do two workouts each day to try and make up for the lost time during the week, if I want to do well in the race.
My return triathlon after hiatus/injury/slacking is bringing me back to a sport I love. Although, it will be different now, being in a different part of society. In the working world where I am will not have the whole triathlon team around to help me train to reach a similar goal of Collegiate Nationals. However, I will not be alone...I will have Beth next to me in training and during the race, and we will be victorious no matter what the outcome. The rush and thrill will be back in our lives.

23 and 20 days
23 days from the first race of my summer.
It's just before bedtime at 10:30ish. I figured I do one of these because Beth just wrote another blog and is sitting right next to me.
There is a lot of training that still needs to be done before I am ready to compete. Namely, fast brick workouts. Tomorrow morning, I will have the second brick workout of the summer. I will make the 30 mile trip from Longmont to Fort Collins by bike and proceed to do a 4 mile run. Last time I did this, I took a wrong turn and went 5 miles out of my way, but continued on and had an excellent run portion averaging about a 40 minute 10k pace for just a 3 mile run. This time I hope to do about the same, except to go the right way on my bike.
My goal for the race is to do the 750m swim in 14 minutes, the 13 mile bike in 35 minutes, my 5k run in 18:30, and about 1 minute for each transition. This will put me at a total time of 1 hour 9 minutes and 30 seconds.
The last time I did this race two years ago, I did it in 1:10:25 including a 2 minute penalty. However, the run was about .3 miles short and the bike will be a little longer this year.
It is now 20 days before the race.
The Brick workout two days ago went very well. I did the 29.8 mile trip from Longmont in 1:20:50 at an average pace of 22.1 mph. I then proceeded to run 4.37 miles in 28:04 in a pace of 6:25min/mile. It was a good estimation of my current abilities.
I did not do any training on Saturday as i got up really early and worked on my feet for a long time and was just too unmotivated to get out and exercise.
Today, I worked 8 hours and got up early, but I brought my swimming stuff so I could swim right after I got off. The workout I did was posted on the whiteboard in the pool and was 2800yds.
WU - 200 swim, 200 kick, 200 pull
W/O - 4x300 - 75buildups @1min rest,
3x100 - 1. kick w/ face in water 2. fists 3. explosive wall push offs,
4x75 - 1,3 - 25 fast, 25 easy, 25 fast 2,4 - 25easy, 25 fast, 25 easy,
6x50 - Odds - fast, Evens - slow
CD - 100 swim 25 breast, 50 free, 25 breast
I felt tired during the warm up and through about the first one or two 300s, then I finally got warmed up a little and got a bit of a good workout in.
Scheduled for tomorrow - 20 mile bike, 4 mile run brick
I'll keep you updated!

To Beth
Beth,
You say I never tell you things like you wrote in a blog.
Well now, here is where your thought will be challenged.
I am in love with a girl named Beth
She has many great things about her
including:
She is very expressive.
She does not let any emotion go unnoticed whether it be good or bad.
She is very family oriented and cares about the most important people in her life.
Her smile is infectious.
She is goofy and always makes me laugh with her many funny faces.
She corrects me when I spell 'weird' wrong in a text.
She makes amazing baked goods.
She gets me a midnight bike ride for my birthday and Love Lottery scratch tickets for Valentine's Day.
She makes me feel like trying harder in life.
Her laugh is cute and giggly.
She is determined to do something once she sets her mind on it.
Her eyes twinkle like the stars.
She is very opinionated and will argue for what she believes.
Her smoothies are very good even though they could be a little less thick.
She has little toes that like to say hi occasionally.
She believes in me and helps me to do the same.
She makes me feel like I am needed.
She makes me feel like I am at home.
She makes me feel like I can reach my goals.
She thinks I will be a good personal trainer.
She makes me feel like I always want to have a training plan for her no matter what.
She makes me feel trusted because I can trust her.
She is beautiful and has a nice (insert part of body).
She makes me feel less competitive and tense and more competitive and tense at the same time.
She brings me chick-fil-a for dinner at work occasionally.
But most of all
She makes me feel loved.
And she is my best friend.
And that is what makes me in love with the most
beautiful, intelligent, expressive, and opinionated girl in the world.
Love,
Atomic Adam

Into The Unknown
Today will be my first blog ever. I'm not really sure what I should write about, but i guess it should be about training or something triathlon related because of the name of my blog. So i guess will start writing about that and see just where my writing takes us.
Tuesday, April 3rd. 2:39 pm. I am writing on my girlfriend Beth's computer while she is in the shower. After this I'm going to watch a TV show with her and then proceed to go do a running and lifting workout at Miramont, where I work, while Beth is in class. I am going to the gym to do this because the weather isn't exactly perfect out, and I don't really feel like being cold on my run.
I am currently working on a running goal that I created for myself a few weeks ago after a not so normal running leg of a triathlon. The goal is to increase my 'easy' mileage pace to about 6:45 per mile from around 7:15. The plan basically consists of a tempo for every run while progressively getting longer distance. I started at 3 - 3mile runs, then 4 - 4 mile runs, then 5 - 5 mile runs and so on at the increased pace until i do 7 - 7 mile runs at the pace. Another aspect of my plan is two days of running in a row, then one day of rest. However, I have taken a few more rest days than I have in the plan, but that will only make the pace feel easier for me. Today will be the 4th 4 mile run in my plan. After the plan is finished, I should theoretically be able to do that pace of a run every time I go on one.
